One page letter addressed to "Mr. Johnston" with the request that he sign and return a document to McClure Phillips & Co. dealing with copyright. Addressed from "NY." Signed "Sydney Porter."
Provenance (recorded on back of letter): "Mr. Stanley Walker of New York gave Mrs. C.C. Smith a note to Mr. Johnston, written by Sydney Porter, Jany [sic] 31, 1906 in N.Y. about copyright. / July 11, 1945 = In afternoon." Mrs. C.C. Smith was the curator of the O. Henry Museum in 1945.
