Handwritten letter from O. Henry to Gilman Hall written in black ink on cream-colored paper. Dated "Monday" and addressed to "Mr. Bill." O. Henry writes: "I couldn't go to you all's house to dinner, though I wanted to. I cant go to no nice people's houses till I get plenty of money and catch up with the times. I am working on the job and I will beat the game yet. After my rehabilitation I hope to find you and Old Crow waiting at (the) Kirk's. Yours in haircloth and sashes, / Bill, the Bounder / P.S. / Mr. Hubbell is a nice old gentlman: and I let him live."
