Object Name Washstand
Object ID 1936.21.02
Collection O. Henry Museum Collection
Description Walnut washstand with marble top. Top has rounded pediment with two small shelves that are supported by two vertical pieces of marble. Washstand has a top drawer and a bottom cabinet. Top drawer a wooden tear drop pull on either side of the drawer that is attached to a brass Eastlake rosette. In between the tear drop pulls is a keyhole.
Provenance In the O. Henry Museum Inventory notebook (1935-1951), p.14, the curator (Cornelia Smith) wrote next to entries for a dresser and washstand "MRS. ROACH--USED BY O. HENRY FAMILY." The donor is not listed, so the provenance of these objects are unclear. Mrs. Roach (Martha Roach) died in 1929, and her husband P.G. Roach died in 1930. However, the dresser is of the same style as the bed the belonged to P.G. and Martha Roach (1934.36.01).
